Home décor without breaking the bank
In this article, we get some advice from Lilly Smith, freelance home decor blogger, on how to decorate your dream home without spending a fortune:
We all want to live in an ideal dream home. When you flip the pages of a home design magazine you probably wish your home could look like those do. It might seem like an unachievable feat of strength that requires a lot of money, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Everyone knows that you can’t simply buy good taste. Perfecting your home décor can be achieved with a very small investment of time and some know-how.
Start with a clean slate
In order to revamp the décor of your home, you will need to start from the ground up. This means getting rid of anything that isn’t absolutely necessary. You will want to have enough room to completely redecorate the home to your liking.
Deciding what is and what isn’t necessary can be pretty tough. Try to imagine how certain things will look in your ideally framed home. If something you already have is pretty expensive and difficult to replace, you should consider keeping it. Use your creativity and taste to somehow adapt it into the ideal vision of your home. This way, you can even save some money along the way.
If a piece of furniture or décor doesn’t fall into that vision, it might be time to get rid of it. After all, it’s much easier to make unique art if you are given a blank slate. More freedom usually equals more creativity and this is especially true when it comes to home decoration.
The devil is in the details
After you’ve set up all the basics that will form the skeleton of your décor, you’re still going to need to go a long way towards your goal.
You will want to add some smaller elements that will give your home that certain je ne sais quoi. You can add things like candle holders, pillows, and small characteristic pieces of furniture to complete your ideal look.
Showing off your DIY talents is a great way to add flair to your home while still saving some money. For this, you will need building materials like plastic sheets, tubes and rods. With a small arsenal of items, you can build an endless number of useful and attractive pieces.
With glue and nails at your side, you can really do anything you put your mind to.
The only other thing you might need in your toolkit is a dash of creativity to go along with your materials.
Don’t neglect those walls
When you’re decorating an interior, you will want to cover all of your bases. This includes paying special attention to your walls. Walls are what give your whole room a personality.
They aren’t just something that separates you from the outside, they can also be considered a kind of furniture.
They are the perfect medium for any artist to express themselves. You don’t need to paint over them, either. You just have to think of them as the ideal canvas for your ideas.
Start by adding some pictures on those blank walls. Hanging the right kind of art will cover up those blank and empty spaces and it will instantly make your room come alive.
Framed pictures and paintings aren't the only things you're limited to. There's no reason you can't tape some beautiful posters on your wall. Stickers and posters can give off a casual and artistic vibe to any room. Let's not forget that they're also pretty cheap for the luxury feel they provide.
If push comes to shove, you can also express yourself directly on the walls by painting and drawing things. You would be surprised by the end results.
The right kind of home décor doesn’t come from your wallet, but rather it comes from your inspiration and creativity. With a good eye for details, you can transform your living space into whatever you envisioned. Most people are held back by the theoretical issue of financing a home décor revamp, but that’s only used as an excuse for laziness. If you put in the necessary dedication into your home, you will find that it’s not that difficult to redecorate it on a small budget. With some of these tips in mind, you’ll be set for your décor revamp.
