It’s beginning to look a lot like that time of year again where we start spending more time snuggled up indoors and spreading the holiday cheer with friends and family. This holiday season, why not invite the ones you love around to help decorate and celebrate this year’s festivities! And even better, save some money while doing it!

Christmas Trees – real or artificial?

Sustainable reusable Christmas trees are always going to be the cheaper option for your budget, giving you the chance to make the most of your money each year.

If you simply have to have a real tree, go for a potted one that you can keep alive after the holiday season is done and gone.

The realistic appearance of artificial trees has been getting better as the years go by, they can be reused each year and the create no mess when putting it up.

Get the look from the high street! No matter what your style is, you can get that photo shoot tree from finds on the high street. Here are a couple of trees we love that you can re-create yourselves.

Elegant Woodland - Sophisticated and swoon-worthy, warm golds and pine cones decorate the branches of this tree. Pinecone decorations neutral decor is available from John Lewis or why not add a touch of sparkle with Mercurised glass baubles from Zara Home.

Classic Red & Green - A stickler for the traditional? Harness the spirit of Christmas and bring candy canes and nutcrackers through on your tree. Cost effective stores like Marks & Spencer's stock classic red velvet and glass bauble decorations, or you could go to bespoke places such as Etsy for wooden Christmas nutcracker tree decorations.

Minimalistic Scandi tree – Natural colours and textures dominate this calm and warming tree. Consider decorative items such as low cost paper decorations from Ikea or flocked baubles from Next Home.

Playful Colour - Like to do things a little differently? Celebrate the festive season with an explosion of colour with the items such as brightly coloured glass baubles from places such as Habitat. Or quirky bright balloon dog shaped baubles from Paperchase.

Swap out your softs furnishings

A cheap and cheerful way to bring further festive feels into your home is by swapping out your cushion covers and throws with something a little more Christmassy.

We love this mature and subtle approach of using star motifs and rich velvets for an elegant and sumptuous affair.

Get the little ones excited too by changing up their bedding and adding a little Santa cushion to 'watch over them' while they sleep.

If you want a festive feel to bring into the new year, go for cosy textures and patterns such as plaid and sheepskin, things that feel Christmassy without being so 'on the nose' with it.

Get crafty with it

We all remember our parents rummaging in the attic for those handmade decorations you’d make in school and then displaying them proudly on the tree for all to see. Why not get some friends and family together to re-create that feeling with making some aesthetically Christmas decorations of your own.

Make your own wreaths

If you live near a park or are planning a trip to the countryside, gather up some pinecones, acorns and create your own wreath to decorate your door this Christmas. We at Suna are giving it a go in the run up to Christmas and we can’t wait to create some insta-worthy wreaths.

Paper Chains

Paper decorations are everywhere this year and the easiest to make at home is the paper chain. Use left over wrapping paper or old books for a sustainable approach to some wholesome festive decoration.

Home Made Baubles

You can get little glass fillable baubles from any good hobby or craft shop which you can then decorate as you choose. If you have anything let over from your wreath making, why not fill these little baubles with leaves and cones. Or you can fill these with sweets and treats to gift on Christmas day.
