Show home inspiration at The Gramercy in Greenwich
We’ve asked our interior designers The Manser Practice, to help explain the inspiration behind the recent Shared Ownership show home at The Gramercy.
Greenwich in Context
The main inspiration for the apartment is Greenwich Park’s composition and how it sits within its surroundings. The beautiful park sits in stark contrast with the view across the river to the backdrop of the Canary Wharf skyline and the historic buildings of the University of Greenwich.
This key concept of ‘Old meets New’ is strongly visible in the area of Greenwich and therefore we wanted to highlight this in our design. For example, in the living area we have paired pieces of a vintage style, such as a walnut sideboard, with a bright grey contemporary sofa and high backed armchairs. This design focus is embellished with a mix of some unexpected and unique pieces sat side by side with more typical items.
Striking and contrasting colours are present throughout the design, such as the living area where a busy patchwork-esque rug lies adjacent to the pale timber and white dining table or the deep blue walls in the kitchen which creates a bold backdrop for a dramatic indoor garden. Here, we have brought nature into the apartment using numerous plants either hung from the ceiling or lining the deep window sills.
Warm green tones sit alongside velvet stools and marble detail bedside lamps in the master bedroom, again to layer the different design eras against each other and create a natural look. In the second bedroom this layering continues with dark timber furniture with pops of colours with modern lighting.
