Double Success for Peabody at RIBA Awards
Two Peabody developments have been awarded a 2017 RIBA London Award for architectural excellence.
More West (Silchester) and St John’s Hill (Phase 1) were winners at the regional awards, which are given to buildings across the UK recognised as important contributions to architecture. Both schemes now qualify for the RIBA national awards and potentially for the highest honour in architecture, the Stirling Prize.
Designed by Hawkins/Brown Architects, the first phase of our St John’s Hill estate regeneration includes 153 new homes, high-quality landscaping and the beginning of a new public route between Clapham Junction Station and Wandsworth Common.
Our More West (Silchester) development opposite Latimer Road tube station includes 112 new mixed-tenure homes, community and retail facilities designed by Stirling Prize winners Haworth Tompkins Architects. The scheme has been designed around a communal garden; integrating an existing 20 storey tower within a new urban block.
Brendan Sarsfield, Chief Executive of the Peabody Group said:
“Good design sits at the heart of the new neighbourhoods Peabody is creating and enhancing in the city. Working with the best architects and planners, we’re building thousands of new mansion blocks in the capital, providing beautiful, high-quality homes designed with longevity in mind. The RIBA awards are the most rigorous and prestigious awards for new buildings in the UK and we’re very proud to have two of our schemes recognised.”
Joanna Sutherland, Associate Director at Haworth Tompkins Architects said:
“We are thrilled to receive a RIBA London Award for Silchester. Working with Peabody and The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea on such a challenging and ambitious project has been very rewarding. This award recognises Peabody’s ongoing commitment to high quality design.”
Iain Cochran, Partner at Hawkins\Brown said:
“Working with Peabody and residents at St John’s Hill, we have tried to keep an existing community together whilst regenerating the estate. This award acknowledges a scheme whose success has only been possible through the collaboration and hard work of various partners. Peabody's ambitious outlook has allowed us to create a place which will serve the residents, community and this city for many generations to come.”
All homes at More West and St John's Hill estate are no under offer.
